Clear aligners and braces: understanding your options

Understand your options for a straighter smile.

Braces and clear aligners are commonly used to guide teeth into better positions and improve how the upper and lower teeth meet. An orthodontist or dentist can help explain which options fit your situation. ADA

Traditional braces use brackets and wires. Clear aligners are removable, custom-made trays that gradually move teeth. Aligners may not be right for everyone, and treatment requires following the instructions from your dentist or orthodontist. Retainers are commonly used afterward to help maintain the result. FDA

Questions to ask your dentist or orthodontist:

  1. Which options could address my bite and alignment goals?

  2. What would treatment involve, and how long might it take?

  3. What daily care, follow-up visits, and retainer plan should I expect?

General education only. A dental professional needs to examine you and discuss your individual situation.
